Malaria in Costa Rica

by Michael Alan in Costa Rica

Hey guys, it's Michael from TravelCostaRicaNow.com and I've got a little something you should know, especially if you're going to be on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica in the next few weeks. This is more of a heads-up than a warning, but you should know it.

*NOTE — People seem concerned about diseases like malaria when traveling to tropical areas, so this is good information for anyone traveling to Costa Rica.

Now, I know what you're thinking: it's those pesky little tropical swamp devils - mosquitoes!

So yep, we're talking about malaria. But don't worry, don't change your travel plans, and don't freak out. I'm here to help and you need to be informed so you know what's going on.

Health Ministry's Swift Action

So, we had Holy Week recently, and there's been an outbreak of malaria in the Limon province of Costa Rica. So, that's the Caribbean side, the Atlantic side.

But before you start panicking, let me tell you that Costa Rica is on top of this issue. They're already sending people from the Ministry of Health to deal with it.

Malaria Information and Precautions

If you're going to be down in the Caribbean side and you're still determining where you'll be, I'll put everything about malaria in the description.

You can Google the locations and see if you will be in that area. That way, you can make your decisions and take precautions if needed.

Putting Things in Perspective: Costa Rica's Malaria Control

Now, let's put things in perspective. Costa Rica has issues, but they're on their game regarding malaria and dengue.

They've been checking for standing water and putting poison pellets in flowerpots to keep mosquitoes away. Malaria hasn't been a big problem here. They expect it to be eradicated by 2025 or 2030.

Caribbean Coast Favorites: Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva

But for some reason, there's been a spike in cases recently, and they're on it. So I wouldn't worry too much, but I want you to know. I love the Caribbean coast, especially Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva. Most malaria cases are north of those areas, so you're probably good down there.

A Final Thought

So, that's it for now. If you don't hear me mention this again in the following few videos, they have it under control. Just a little heads up from your friend Michael at TravelCostaRicanNow.com.

As always, do your homework and research before traveling or living anywhere. If it's about Costa Rica, I've got your back with my videos. Peace out, guys!
